The launching ceremony of China- ASEAN Cross-Border E-commerce Platform was jointly held by CCPIT and ASEAN business associations in Beijing on December 9, 2016. CCPIT Chairman Jiang Zengwei, Chairman of Suning Holdings Group Zhang Jindong,  Vice President of National Chamber Of Commerce And Industry Of Malaysia Liew Sew Yee, Vice President of the Federation of Thai Industries Somyod Tangmeelarp, and Vice President of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry China Committee Haris Chandra attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Nearly 100 delegates from the e Ministry of Commerce, the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit Secretariat, the China-ASEAN Center, the ASEAN Embassies and business associations in China were present.

Jiang said in his speech, China and ASEAN are natural partners as they are geographically connected with close relations in the peoples and business. In recent years, the two sides actively promote the Belt and Road Initiative to link with development strategies of the countries in the region, and have finished upgrading negotiation on China – ASEAN Free Trade Area which injects new vitality to bilateral business cooperation. Along with the rapid development of Internet technology, cross-border e-commerce has become a new engine of bilateral trade. The official ceremony of the Platform is of great significance to promote the development of China-ASEAN cross-border e-commerce and bilateral trade. CCPIT is willing to provide an effective platform for enterprises’ cooperation with other hosts and organizers of the platform, and make greater contributions to sustained and healthy development of bilateral ties.

Zhang Jindong said, Suning will build the platform as a strong driving force for innovation and development of China and ASEAN markets. Meanwhile it will make the platform a main land for overseas sales of Chinese products and help China’s capital, resources and technology enter ASEAN through the consumer market guide.

Liew Sew Yee and delegates from ASEAN business associations said, the platform is of historic significance as an important milestone in bilateral economic and trade cooperation. ASEAN countries have great potential for e-commerce. The platform will bring a very positive impact on bilateral cooperation and greatly promote communication between governments, enterprises and consumers on both sides. They expected the platform to achieve substantive results in the future.

Jiang lighted the symbol for the platform with the guests, which marks the official launch of the platform.

After that, Sun Jun, General Manager of CCPIT Information Center, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on jointly building the platform with Phil-China Trade & Investment Council and Brunei Chamber of Commerce, making the number of the platform hosts increasing to 9.

The platform, also known aswww.eshopasean.com, was hosted by CCPIT, Suning Group and ASEAN business associations in September 2015, with the aim of building a portal for cross-border transactions of on merchants and consumers on both sides. The on-line goods include food, health products, daily necessities, beauty care and other categories, covering 9 ASEAN countries. The trading volume reached 100,000 since its on-line test operation in September 2016.

The platform is convenient in transaction, efficient in logistics and distribution and low-cost. Suning provides operational support in member flow, marketing and system coordination with focus on brands owners, supermarkets, traders, cross-border e-commerce service providers. It also provides a series of preferential measures in usage fee, transaction commission, settlement etc for merchants recommended by CCPIT and ASEAN business association.

The platform will actively attract cross-border e-commerce enterprises, foreign trade services companies, financial institutions etc to make itself bigger and stronger. It will also guide enterprises to strengthen integrity construction to become a trustful platform.
