Turkish Industry and Business Association (TUSIAD)

Established in 1971, TUSIAD is the non-governmental representative organization of the Turkish private sector (industries, finance and services) at the national level. Representing 80% of Turkey’s total foreign trade (excluding energy), 50 % of total employment (excluding agriculture and livestock, public and unregistered employment) and 80 % of total corporate taxes, TUSIAD plays a significant role in the Turkish economy. Besides being member of BusinessEurope, TUSIAD acquired a strong voice internationally through its membership to BIAC of the OECD, B20 Coalition, EU Chamber of Commerce in China. Apart from its Ankara office, TUSIAD has a strong international network of 5 representative offices around the world: Brussels, Washington, D.C., Paris, Berlin, and Beijing. TÜSİAD is committed to monitor and promote Turkey’s economic competitiveness, institutional reform process and membership to the European Union.


EROL BILECIK

Erol Bilecik was born in Antakya, Hatay. In 1980 he moved to Istanbul to study computer engineering at Istanbul Technical University.

After graduation, he worked as a system analyst before founding Index Computer in 1989. He has been the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Index Group Companies – Index Computer, Despec, Datagate, Neteks, Homend, and Teklos-Index Group, which distribute products from over 200 global technology companies in Turkey. Since the 1990’s Index Group has worked with major international companies like IBM, 3M, Apple, HP, and Siemens.

Mr. Bilecik led the IPO of three companies within Index Group. Index Computer, Datagate, and Despec became publically traded in 2004, 2006, and 2010, respectively. Index Group’s five strategic foreign partnerships also facilitate foreign capital flows into Turkey and its IT sector.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Informatics Association (TBV) and the Entrepreneurship Foundation (GİRVAK). Between 2002 and 2005 Mr. Bilecik was the President of TÜBİSAD (Turkish Informatics Industry Association), one of the oldest NGOs in Turkey’s IT sector. Between 2010 and 2014 he was also the President of the Istanbul Technical University Alumni Association.

Mr. Bilecik was awarded the Outstanding Service and Honor Award by Turkey’s Grand National Assembly in July 2010 for his philanthropy and commitment to education.

Within TÜSİAD, Mr. Bilecik has led the social development roundtable and working groups on information technology and telecommunications. He was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of TÜSİAD in January 2017.
