Global Business Coalition and B20 Turkey announce event on Digital Economy on October 06, 2015, in Istanbul

The B20 Conference on Digital Economy, a first-of-its-kind initiative, will take place on October 6, 2015, in Istanbul, in parallel to the G20 Trade Ministers’ meeting. The event is co-organized by B20 Turkey and B20 Coalition (now known as the Global Business Coalition) with the support of Accenture as knowledge partner.

Digital Economy is a cross-cutting theme that impacts almost all areas of focus for the G20 business community. The B20 Conference on Digital Economy: The Third Wave: Digital Economy And The Industrial Internet, is a first step within the G20 process to address one of the most critical issues of our time – how to unlock the colossal potential of the digital economy for the benefit of consumers, businesses, and governments while anticipating and addressing its potential disruptive effects.

The event will bring together business leaders as well as representatives from G20 governments and international institutions in order to address issues such as: e-commerce, challenges that SMEs and entrepreneurs face in an increasingly digital world, skills development, job creation, cross-border data flow, payment systems, data privacy, and last but not least net neutrality and governance, and tax regimes.

One of the goals of the event is to build a dedicated platform that will act as a share-point, enabling prominent digital and technology firms, SMEs, entrepreneurs, investors and governments to work together with the aim of providing relevant support in the production of implementable recommendations as well as in the framing of appropriate policies to leverage the potential of the digital economy and the Industrial Internet for stimulating growth in the most effective way.

The B20 Coalition, which brings together leading independent business organizations and industry associations from G20 countries and represents 6.8 million businesses, has made the digital economy its priority for the year 2015 and has launched a series of initiatives in this domain. The introduction, Digital Economy: The Driver for Growth to the series, reports on the main challenges identified by the companies that the Coalition represents.

“B20 Turkey, having made the digital economy a cross-cutting theme and one of the priorities of its Presidency, and Accenture having developed a sound expertise on strategic issues involved in this domain, the B20 Coalition is delighted to commit its network and resources towards the common goal of fostering the integration of Digital Economy into the G20 leaders’ agenda,” commented the Hon. Perrin Beatty, President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and President of the B20 Coalition.
